Planting in a Basket

Friday, June 12, 2015

I like the way this impatien looks in this old basket.  You can find
baskets at garage sales, estate sales or Good-Will stores.  Perhaps you
have some baskets in your attic?  Paul once said that
I was a "basket case" after he found 14 baskets in the attic.

I've come to the realization that I should just make good use of them
and not save them...what am I saving them for anyway?

I found this basket at a garage sale.  I think it was originally a trash basket.
Thankfully it had never been used.

I lined it with one of those thick black leaf bags and cut several
holes for drainage.

I always use Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix when potting plants along
with a sprinkle of Osmocote.

I noticed that those irritating roly poly bugs had decided to take up
residency under the pot so I put the basket on a wire riser.  It's really a
wire container that I've turned upside down.

I now look at baskets a little differently.  When I see one I instantly
think, "Would that make a good planter and will Paul notice if I buy another basket?"
It's always nice to have different types of planters in your yard so check out your attic
or a garage sale this weekend.  You never know what you'll find.

Happy Gardening!
